When Emergencies Happen
Please Stay Calm!
- Choose a location & call ahead
- Bring your pets medication or list and suspected product if toxic ingestion suspected
- Know that your pet is well cared for at the ER
- Direct all questions to the ER Veterinarian & staff actively treating your pet at the emergency facility chosen
- Inform Dr. Brown via the Patient Update and Progress Form
- Inform your pets General Practice (GP) Veterinarian/Full-Service Brick & Mortar Clinic (BM) also
- Once your pet is stabilized and a treatment plan has been discussed via ER doctors/staff it is strongly recommended to schedule post ER exams with Dr. Brown and/or your pets GP/BM at this time pending ER recommendations to avoid scheduling delays and breaks in treatment
- Search the complimentary Pet Library for additional information regarding your pets' medical concern(s)
- If your pet has had lab work completed with Dr. Brown you received a final report copy via email for your records. This information can be forwarded to ER so they can compare new/current ER lab results to baseline if needed. Medical records from Dr. Brown are not available on immediate demand or after hours which is why lab work results are sent to owners via email. If your pet has pending lab work Dr. Brown will forward partial results as available from lab during regular business hours
- Please request TeLeVET Time for additional support from Dr. Brown. TeLeVET fees apply
- Dr. Brown is not able to answer ER specific questions as she does not have access to ER records or information in real time nor is she able to dictate ER treatment plans
When Your Pet is Discharged
- Refer to written ER discharge instructions or contact ER directly for specific questions regarding ER prescribed medications and follow up care recommendations
- Have ER medical reports, diagnostic results and images emailed to Dr. Brown records@brownvetservices.com and your GP/BM
- Schedule post ER exam with Dr. Brown and/or your pets GP/BM clinic pending specific ER recommendations (ideally schedule before your pet leaves the ER or as soon as possible to avoid scheduling delays and breaks in treatment)
- If Dr. Brown is your pets TCVM-only Veterinarian, please direct all GP post ER follow up questions directly to the GP/BM that will be following up with your pet for GP specific services & care. For GP second opinions by Dr. Brown please submit a TeLeVET Time request. TeLeVET fees apply
